Good highlighting kits/dye to lighten hair?

I have naturally medium brown hair and wanted go a bit lighter or put some darkish/ashy blonde highlights in my hair to give it a lift. Could anyone recommend a product that works? (I tried L'oreal Coleur experte french eclair/light ash brown but my hair went slightly lighter but a red tinge??).

I think personally you are better off going to aprofessional hairdresser to get colour put through it, i have treid lightening mine, streaking it and every product i have treid has beena disaster lol, honestly that what they are there for, at least you can feel pampered as well

I like the Nice n easy range. For highlights though, please use a salon. Too much can go wrong!

words of advice! Be VERY CAREFUL highlighting your own hair...I tried it once and it came out like I had leopard spots, needless to say I had to go to a salon and get it fixed! Anyways I used Herbal Essences to try to Highlight and it came with a comb...hence the spots the gel didn't move from the spot you start it in! I would try anything else or if you looking to get it done somewhere cheap try a local beauty school they normal have a day or week you can come in and get any beauty service done for a fraction of the price. Just make sure to ask for SR in the program that way you get someone who knows what they are doing, but the teachers are always around so it won't be like they mess up!

Jerome Russell do great high-lighting kits but if you don't want bleach go to a salon you can never get the right colour dye blonde in a box....

I have a friend who is very good at dying her own hair and has done so for several years without severe damage. She swears that the only way to do it properly is to get salon grade chemicals.

We go to Shellys here in London to get the stuff. They have the colours and the books it was only slightly more expensive initally as you have to get a application brush and mix bowl. BUT the dye and peroxide I purchased will do my hair (which is shoulder lenght and dense) twice. So, I would suggest that.
