I have medium brown hair and would like to lighten it to a pale red or strawberry blonde. It's too expensive to do at a salon, so I want to do it myself.

I read in a magazine that if you use a light blonde hair dye kit on brown hair, it'll come out as light red. Will this work?

I have never tried it, but an inexpensive experiment would be to try "sun in". You could try just a little bit at a time to see if you get the results that you are looking for.

I would definately pay the money....I tried it and my hair turned an odd shade that did not look at all natural. Then you just have to pay even more to get it fixed.

really bad idea, you hear of so many people dying there own hair and then wanting to DIE because it look horrible, dying you hair darker is different, then lightening your hair. dying you hair darker is okay to do at home, but lightening leave it to the pros! and never let you freinds dye you hair, because chances are they won't be your freinds after you look in the mirror!!!
