Hair Coloring Question.......?

I have medium brown hair and i streak it but i am unsure of what kind of product to buy, what color(s), and how to do it. can some one experienced tell me what to do before the end of the day cuz 1 of my friends is picking up the stuff 2 come and help me.

I am doing it myself cuz i can not currently afford 2 get it done pro.

Please also tell be how to maintain it after and stuff i shoulden't do like chlorine water and shampooing stuff like that.
