Its best to just dye the tip of your hair, but a small lock would work to. Good luck:D

You don't need to cut it off just do a small bit at the back where people won't see. You are meant to do a test patch before using any colour.

Go ear level and part your hair in the back. This is an unnoticeable place to take hair from. If you are going all blonde I would actually recommend that you have it professionally done the first time and you can do root touch ups yourself. Dying to blonde, if not done right, you can burn your hair if you are not careful then it will be unmanageable and wispy. Also, you should wait at least 6-8 weeks between each coloring, otherwise you take a chance of damaging your hair to the point of split ends and it will look like straw on your head instead nice looking hair
